A knock off is a cheap or inferior copy of something. Even though our products are similar to and generally compatible with Origami Owl, they are in no way cheap or inferior.
I love lockets and have always loved lockets. Lockets throughout history have held meaningful items such as hair, photos, baby teeth, perfume, and ashes. Lockets provide a stylish way to hold items that have sentimental value close to your heart.
Origami Owl started a wonderful trend with glass lockets and floating charms, but did not invent them. In fact, Bon Bons Girly Boutique’s website states they have been “home of the world’s highest quality charm lockets since 2009.” Origami Owl states that Bella started selling in 2010 and in 2012 they launched as a direct selling company. Lately, some big-box stores have even started carrying charm lockets. Glass, floating charm lockets are a new twist on an age-old keepsake.
As the owner of Lahara Lockets, I hand-pick all of the lockets and charms that our company puts its name on. I throughly researched the different metals lockets are made of and decided that jewelry-grade stainless steel is the most durable, is hypoallergenic and will not tarnish. This is the metal that all of our lockets and chains are made out of. I choose high-quality charms that have consistent thickness and always have a vast selection to choose from.
I believe in the adage, “you get what you pay for”. On one end of the spectrum, you can pay top dollar for a locket that is made from solid gold. On the other end, you can pay a minimal amount and get a locket made from a zinc alloy. In the fashion jewelry world, it is often difficult to know what your jewelry is made of. I have had great luck with stainless steel and stand by the metals in all my lockets and chains due to this.
When you buy from Lahara Lockets you are supporting a small business. Lahara Lockets consists of myself, my sister-in-law and my two daughters (when they feel like it). I do this to have fun, learn something new and bring joy to others. Shop around and compare for yourself. Be kind to others that are just trying to make a place for themselves in this world.
The Beginning of Lahara Lockets
The adventure begins. In October of 2013 I was introduced to glass lockets and floating charms through an invite to an Origami Owl Jewelry Bar.
I have always treasured lockets and was in need of a new necklace with the birthstones of all my children. The see-through lockets intrigued me and I loved the idea of being able to change charms with every whim. The possibilities were endless and I became so excited with the idea that I wanted to give lockets to everyone I knew. Of course, I was not able to do this financially so I started researching other companies that made glass lockets and floating charms. There were so many options and I was having so much fun discussing the choices with my two daughters, Zahara and Leilani, that I decided to bring them in on the venture. We decided to start our own glass locket and floating charm business by purchasing charms and lockets in lots at wholesale costs and reselling them at reasonable prices to the general public. My young daughters and I are having fun learning how to start up and run a business and are doing this as more than a hobby than a money making venture. We hope you have as much fun shopping with us as we have fun selling to you!
